Murray Hay

at work in his Calgary studio.

October 1, 1931- October 27, 2015

Murray Hay  was a commercial artist in Calgary and in 1976 began to paint Ski area maps or Piste maps.   First for Lake Louise and eventually for most areas in Canada, some in the USA including Olympic bid maps for Aleyeska.  He painted the ski area for the South Korea Olympic bid and all of the venues for the Calgary ’88 games.  His work has been featured in Equinox magazine and Reader’s Digest.

Murray Hay’s work is largely in the possession of the various ski areas.  His notes and archives along with several paintings can be viewed at the Whyte Museum in Banff.

Currently, there are three originals presented at the Willock’s Sax Gallery in Banff.  The photos do not do his work justice.

This website is a labour of love to Murray Hay.  He was a wonderful artist, and a lovely man.  You’ll find him referred to throughout this site as Dad, because, well, because he’s Dad.

These are beginning days of this website.  I’ll try to offer stories and how he worked.  Please be patient with me as I add content and try to figure out editing.
