APEX ALPINE

Beautiful painting of Apex Alpine Resort in Penticton, BC.  The sky on this particular painting is really interesting.  A gallery in Penticton made a limited edition print of this painting.  I’ll post a side by side when I get better at editing.

SUNSHINE

Beautiful area that Murray Hay painted many times.  This was one of the first times to capture both Goat’s Eye and Brewster.  I think this is the first time he painted Sunshine from this prospective.

Apex Alpine

Another example of a finished map that appeared in brochures, trail maps etc.  The overlays were clear plastic sheets that Dad then used letraset to cut and shape the run lines and legends.

Kimberly, BC

The original of Kimberly BC.  This is one of three original works that are displayed at the Willocks Sax Gallery in Banff.

Fairmont BC

This is a cool painting.  Fairmont wanted both the ski/winter map. and the golf/summer sides to be shown.  Dad finally came up with the insert.  It’s a unique Murray Hay.

Lake Louise

This is interesting.  This is a World Cup Downhill course.  Dad did several of these for Lake Louise and Sunshine.  He would often paint little “incidents” along a crowd line.  I can’t find one on this painting.  Can you?

Blackcomb BC.

Dad was an amazing artist, but not the best at keeping records.  I know this was painted in the late 80’s early 90’s as the two areas  of Blackcomb and Whistler merged in 1997.

Sunshine

Here is a photo of the finished painting with overlay depicting the run legend.  This one is hanging in Athena Pizza in Banff which was a big family favourite (still is).  The original painting is above.  I will get them side by side for comparison.  Eventually.

Spray Lake

In the Calgary Olympic Bid book, Spray Lake was suggested as the downhill ski area for the 1988 Olympics.  Calgary learned that we got the bid in around 1980, so this would’ve been painted in the late 1970’s.

Kimberley

Kimberley BC.  This is another finished map with overlay for the trail maps and large area maps that were on the hill.  The painting is shown above.

Fernie BC

Fernie BC.  This is one of the three paintings that are on display at the Willock & Sax Gallery.

The signature

I still have people comment that they didn’t know Murray Hay was a real person.  Some didn’t know that the ski map images were actually paintings. They did play games to find his signature.  Usually hidden in the bottom corner among the trees.
